  • Its Snow Time! - Part 2
Adopt these simple tips before hitting the slopes for healthy and happy skin all year round!
3.  Spoil your skin with a healing serum that offers nourishment such as vitamin E, and/or with potent hydrators like Hyaluronic Acid that help retain moisture.

4.  Follow with a moisturizer day and night that leaves your skin nourished and protected.  For some this could mean applying a lighter lotion in the AM, and a heavier one in the PM. It’s a personal choice.

5.  Broad Spectrum SPF is crucial for the winter time!  Sun rays can actually be harsher on vulnerable, weathered skin during the colder months.  Reapplication is recommended if skin is exposed to the outdoor elements.

This season play hard, stay protected and HAVE FUN!!!

  • Its Snow Time! - Part 1
Winter-proof your skin from the mountain this season by simply changing up your current skin care routine.  If not, harsh dry winds and a rapid temperature drop can take a serious toll on our once dewy complexions!
* Only use tepid/lukewarm water on the face if you haven’t started already.  I recommend this all year round.  Hot water robs our oils that are essential for protecting and balancing our skin.
*  Use a gentle cleanser (not a soap) that has little or no lather.  Don’t be fooled by the bubbles leaving your skin “squeaky clean.”  This usually means increased dryness and irritation especially in cold winter weather!  This applies to oilier skin types as well!  I personally like a milk cleanser which leaves the skin feeling silky and nurtured.

  • Change is Good - Part III
Here are some helpful tips to avoid products that do not work for your skin, and to help you find ones that do!
* Seek skin care advice from a professional Esthetician.  Cut the chase and get a skin consultation!
* Use professional products that you can only find at a skin care clinic, salon or spa for maximum results.
* Keep your skin care routine simple.  A cleanser, corrective/serum, moisturizer, daytime SPF.  Too many products in the cabinet can be overwhelming.
* Use the same skin care line.  Skin does not love it when you mix and match products.
For more information, you can always find me at my skin care studio in downtown San Francisco.  I would love to hear from you!!

* Start with cool, thick cucumber slices

* Enjoy the benefits!
The best part of this simple treatment is that you can do it daily, plus your whole body will gain from this relaxing ritual!!!

Glowing Skin
Start the morning with a cup of warm/hot water and a half a lemon.  This will help move things accordingly in the digestive system.  Lemons are antiseptic and antibacterial which will enhance internal cleaning. Healthy digestion equals glowing sun-kissed, clear skin.  Although, this should not substitute your 6-8 glasses of water per day. Skin is our largest organ, so it is very receptive when it it hydrated!

  • Brazilian + Vacay
If you are planning a getaway that involves chlorinated pools, hot tubs or even salt water. Aim on getting waxed at least 3 to 5 days before so.  Chlorine is an irritant.  There is not a better way to bring attention to a bikini area than harsh products with chemicals.   Your skin is an external organ that will visually let you know when it is irritated!  Enter water with caution, making sure there are no signs of irritation from waxing whatsoever before doing so.

Sensitive Much?
Sensitivity levels are different for everyone. Although, receiving a brazilian wax a few days prior to your menstrual cycle will intensify the experience regardless. Our bodies are tender during this time.  If you know that your skin is more delicate in this area due to waxing, it is probably best to schedule your service after your period.  If you know that your pain threshold is on the lower side, you can always take an aspirin or ibuprofen 30 minutes before you arrive.  I hear it helps! :)

  • What to Wear to a Bikini Wax Service

Wear soft and comfy clothes on the day of the service. Tight jeans and underwear will crush the hair follicle resulting in disappointing ingrown hairs.  Cool compresses or a 5 minute refreshing bath plunge will instantly soothe skin from any irritation. Plus some say that cool water is a preventative solution for ingrown hairs as well. The hair follicle will stiffen from the frigid water giving the hair an opportunity to grow accordingly.  I say it’s worth a try!

Post Care

An ideal bikini wax is with little irritation and a silky, smooth finish shortly after an effortless waxing treatment.  Although, keep in mind that there are post care responsibilities once the service is over.
One. Be mindful of immediately wearing tight clothes after waxing as it may irritate the skin.
Two. Keep the newly waxed area covered with an occlusive balm such as shea butter or anything emollient free from dyes or perfumes.  (I use a product called Waxalene) that I retail at Estia.  A nice, healing salve will act as a buffer from anything rubbing the area.
Three.  I have a (3) day rule for most everything when it comes to skin care including the bikini area.  Refrain from chlorine, vigorous sports such as running or Bikram yoga for at least three days.  Sweat and salt are never great for the skin. Nonetheless, a light cleanse and immediate rinse is advisable when doing any of these activities.  Refrain from any kind of exfoliation for at least 3 days.  If attempting to do any performances I mentioned above - simply listen to your skin as it will not lie if it is upset! :)
Four. Don’t forget to moisturize daily only using the purest of ingredients!  This is an area that we often forget.  Our hair acts as a buffer, and once it is gone the area is exposed to rough elements such as tight clothes.  Eventually, becoming irritated and simply dry.
I hope this post help for all of you that were curious about post waxing care! :)
